Matthew Francis
I am a poet, novelist and Reader in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University. I am the author of
four poetry
collections, Blizzard, Dragons, Whereabouts and Mandeville and a
novel, WHOM. I am also the
editor of W.S. Graham's
New Collected Poems, and author of a study of
Graham, Where the People Are. I live in west Wales with my wife, Creina.
This site was last updated on 19 April 2012. My collection of short stories,
Singing a Man to Death, is now out from Cinnamon Press. It has been longlisted for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Prize, along with such big names as Joyce Carol Oates and Don DeLillo. There will be a launch for the book at the Arts Centre Bookshop, Aberystwyth at 6pm on Thursday 24 May. Everyone is welcome and there will be sparkling wine for the occasion. There is an interview with me, mostly about the new book on the New Welsh Review blog.
I have added my latest newsletter, including links to photos of
our
Silver Wedding celebrations and holiday in
Yorkshire.
I am not now updating this site very often, but will retain
it for the time being for announcements of significant events such as publications, and for
the yearly newsletter. I have streamlined it slightly by removing the old Links page - it seems to me
that big collections of links are no longer necessary on the Internet these days: they are a
chore to keep up to date, and many of them are to sites I haven't visited in years. Meanwhile, I have recently started two literary blogs. White Threshold deals with cult fiction, while
Starling City is my attempt to write a novel in blog form.
I also run a blog for Aberystwyth Chess Club.
My old site at Freeserve is now deleted.
